沙塵沙塵！既污我目，勿濁我車！

前日新浣，今又蒙塵。

殘泥斑駁，車容不忍視兮！

迨天之未雨塵，洗之撫之，或敢長(zhǎng)凈。

風(fēng)既狂兮，塵無(wú)蔽兮，穢我清室，隳我車顏！

眾惡之甚，處置無(wú)措。仰天呼嘯，徒嘆奈何！

聞風(fēng)吸土，誰(shuí)為此禍？衣裳色易，誰(shuí)為此難？

將恐將懼，誰(shuí)不我德？將言將呼，誰(shuí)不我寧？

O Dust, thou Dust! Thou cloud’st mine eye,

Yet stain not thou my chariot nigh!

But yestermorn with waters fair,

I washed its limbs and burnish’d care.

Now lo! foul flecks of clotted clay,

Deface its grace and mar display.

Ere Heaven’s brow with rain is set,

I’ll cleanse, I’ll tend, I shall not fret.

Perchance its sheen may long abide,

If hand and heart in care confide.

The winds do rage, the dust flies free,

It soils my hall, affronts my steed!

Of all foul plagues, this is the sorest—

And I, undone, can but implore it.

With every breath I drink the grime,

Who wrought this ill? What cruel design?

My robe once white, now earth-stained lies,

Who shall answer for these cries?

With dread and doubt I lift mine eyes,

Hath none regard for my device?

With voice and plea I call amain,

Will none restore my peace again?
